The Michigan Statewide Educational Network (MiSEN) has brought 10 Gigabit internet connectivity to Michigan Intermediate School Districts (ISD) at a very low cost by purchasing consortia-based services to offer an inexpensive, reliable fiber-optic to Michigan schools. MiSEN primarily services K-12 school entities through the ISDs to the State Education Network (SEN) fiber network for transport and internet access.
MiSEN’s support structures are managed in partnership with the Intermediate Schools Districts to connect all schools. MiSEN was established out of the TRIG Grant Funding provided to consortiums in service to schools. Due to the wise investments of these dollars and the strategy to leverage Federal E-rate funding, MiSEN has been able to sustain operations for nearly a decade. MiSEN is uniquely qualified to succeed due to the partnerships and connections established with Regional Representees managing of the board, advisory, and staff.
Our Vision
Michigan Department of Education's vision for the Michigan Statewide Educational Network (MiSEN) is to connect 100% of Michigan's ISDs, LEAs, and PSAs with the networking capacity needed to ensure that teachers and students never see bandwidth as a barrier to achieving their goals in the classroom.
The SEN allows online assessments and other high-value online activities to be accessed securely at higher bandwidths and lower costs than traditional Internet access. The SEN facilitates great opportunities to share technology and related services.
MiSEN Provides Fast, Secure, Reliable Internet
·Keep up with the growing demand for bandwidth with regional and state-wide purchasing.
·Provide direct paths between ISDs/ESAs/RESAs to make collaboration and resource sharing easy, secure, and cost-effective.
·ISD connections set the stage, connecting all LEAs and buildings.
·MiSEN offers fast, secure connections that protect student data.
Cost Savings to Schools and the State
·A high-bandwidth, shared intranet positions all districts in the state for collaborative purchasing which equals great savings. Some ISDs paying yearly what an average household would pay per month for the internet.
·The SEN's readily available connections between facilities provide a platform for cost-efficient sharing of resources.
